Celebrity Fundraiser to Benefit State Adoption Program; Thursday’s Child Night with the Stars is Aug. 20
FRANKFORT, Ky. (Aug. 18, 2009) – Several Kentucky celebrities from sports, music and media will help raise funds and awareness of state adoption at a celebration Thursday.
Thursday’s Child Night with the Stars will be at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 1375 S. Broadway in Lexington. The fundraiser is sponsored by the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services and Thursday’s Child, a nonprofit group that helps promote adoption.
Guests can meet and mingle with these celebrities scheduled to attend the event:
— Rodger Bingham - “Kentucky Joe” from the reality television series “Survivor”
— J.D. Crowe - legendary Bluegrass musician
— Merlene Davis - Lexington Herald-Leader columnist and adoptive parent
— Dermontti Dawson - former University of Kentucky and Pittsburgh Steelers football player
— Joe B. Hall - former UK basketball coach
— Jack Pattie - WVLK radio personality and event emcee
Tickets will only be sold in advance and are $50 each or $320 for a table of eight.

All contributions are tax deductible, and Thursday's Child will furnish you with written confirmation of your donation to Thursday’s Child. The purchase price of the ticket will be deductible for the amount that exceeds the cost of the meal.
Thursday’s Child supports the CHFS Special Needs Adoption Program (SNAP) and sponsors several activities for Kentucky’s foster children, including field trips, therapeutic horseback riding, summer camp, holiday parties and athletic opportunities. They also help provide these children with items like senior class pictures and letter jackets.
Thursday’s Child also coordinates adoption recruitment events and works diligently to find forever families for Kentucky's waiting children.
More than 800 children in the state foster care system are waiting for adoptive homes.
