Department for Aging and Independent Living
The Kentucky Department for Aging and Independent Living (DAIL) oversees the administration of statewide programs and services on behalf of Kentucky's elders and individuals with disabilities.
In partnership with Kentucky's 15 Area Agencies on Aging and Independent Living, Community Mental Health Centers, Center for Independent Living and other community partners, DAIL provides leadership and addresses issues and circumstances that stand in the way of elders and individuals with disabilities achieving the best possible quality of life.

Because locating, understanding and accessing public programs and services can be difficult, DAIL helps streamline processes and provides one-on-one assistance by phone. We help clients find the most appropriate programs and services for their needs.
We also have tried to make our Web site as user-friendly and functional as possible by providing information and links to other resources of interest to elder Kentuckians, people with disabilities and their families.

The Department for Aging and Independent Living Services and Programs |

The Aging and Disability Resource Center is a centralized one-call-does-it-all service for elder Kentuckians and clients with disabilities seeking services and programs to meet their unique needs.
Centralized Policy Coordination includes clarification, explanation, leadership and coordination on issues concerning elder Kentuckians and people with disabilities.
Adult Day Care and Assisted Living facility certification and information
Consumer Directed Option (CDO) is a program designed to give Medicaid clients more control over services.
Personal Care Attendant Program (PCAP) provides help to adults with disabilities remain in their homes who otherwise may be at risk for institutional care.
Hart-Supported Living (H-SL) Gives support to people with disabilities by providing assistance in arranging services designed to help them live independently and manage their own care.
National Family Caregiver Support Program (NFCSP) was established by the Older Americans Act Amendments of 2000 to help families fulfill their roles as caregivers.
Kentucky Family Caregiver Program (KFCP) was created in 2006 to help Kentucky grandparents caring for grandchildren.
State Health Insurance program A program designed to enhance and expand local education and assistance services for people with Medicare. SHIPs provide one-on-one counseling, conduct targeted community outreach to beneficiaries, ensure access to a trained counselor workforce and collaborate with CMS to gain support and resources needed to provide Medicare program updates and accurate and reliable counseling services.
Senior Community Service Employment Program provides training and part-time employment opportunities to low-income people age 55 and older. Participant benefits include: earned income; training and experience to develop employment skills; annual physical exams; the chance to obtain unsubsidized employment; social and physical activities; and engagement in activities that support independence.
Nutrition Program for the Elderly helps improve the eating habits of participants, offers social networking opportunities and helps the participants remain healthy and independent by reducing hunger and food insecurity. Nutrition screening and nutrition education are important components of this program. The program is administered by the fifteen area agencies on aging and independent living.
Health Promotion and Disease Prevention includes routine health screening, nutrition counseling and education services, health promotion programs, home injury prevention, mental health screenings, benefits counseling, medication management screening education, and rehabilitation information through the area agencies on aging and independent living.
Aging and Disability Resource Guide provides information about and access to information, resources and referrals regarding mental health issues, elder abuse, mental retardation, substance abuse, transportation, consumer relations and long-term care planning.
Guardianship is administered by the Division of Guardianship. Individuals are served by offices in various regions of the state.
Traumatic Brain Injury Trust Fund was established to provide flexible funding and support to those with brain injuries.
Long Term Care Ombudsman Program advocates for residents of nursing homes, personal care homes and family care homes.
