The Division of Child Care supports quality child care through programs and plans that promote the improvement and expansion of statewide child care services and resources. The division also provides program coordination for subsidy payments, coordination of professional development and training and develops policy and procedures.
DCC receives funding from the Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF). For 20 years, the CCDF has made a difference for children, working families and child care providers.

The new edition of the Division of Child Care quarterly newsletter, ECE-INSIDER, for Kentucky's early care and education child care providers is now available.
To provide leadership in building high quality, community based access to child care and early learning that enhances health, safety, permanency, well-being and self-sufficiency for Kentucky's children and families.
A nationally recognized division comprised of a highly skilled workforce that:
- Increases available quality child care that is developmentally appropriate, affordable, healthy and safe;
- Provides access to early care and education, and support to early care professionals throughout the state;
- Engages families and community partners in collaborative decision making for early care and education;
- Provides safe child care services which support stability and self-sufficiency of families;
- Utilizes technological resources to promote the improvement of outcomes in child care;
- Expands data collection and management systems that allow for evidence based management decisions.
The Division of Child Care coordinates program subsidy payments and professional development and training and administers STARS for KIDS NOW and the Kentucky Partnership for Early Childhood Services (child care resource and referral agencies – CCR&Rs). Child Care Assistance Program
Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) provides access to quality child care, allowing parents to work, attend school and/or to participate in the Kentucky Temporary Assistance Program.
Registered Providers are child care providers not subject to licensure or certification by the state or federal government, but they must meet all requirements of the Child Care Assistance Program..
Stars for KIDS NOW
STARS for KIDS NOW is Kentucky's voluntary quality rating improvement system for licensed type I, licensed type II and certified family child care homes. This new website provides informational resources to parents, providers and the general public pertaining to the STARS program and links to other early childhood related resources.
To increase public awareness of the STARS for KIDS NOW Program, the Division of Child Care produced a video of several programs participating in STARS for KIDS NOW. This is Kentucky's voluntary quality rating system for child care providers.
Professional Development provides information on Division of Child Care programs in place to support professional growth and development of Early Care and Education professionals. Links include information on the following Professional Development initiatives and opportunities: the Kentucky Early Childhood Professional Development Framework, Professional Development Counselors, available educational grants and awards, scholarships, clock hour training approvals, and professional state-wide credentials.
