Every 1 Reads AmeriCorps Program

Description: Members help expand the Every 1 Reads program, community-wide partnership among business, local government and Jefferson County Public Schools to provide literacy training to address the academic needs of at-risk students. Members also will recruit and train community volunteers as tutors.

Program Sponsor: Northern Kentucky Cooperative for Educational Services

Description: Serving under the supervision of Family Resource and Youth Services Center coordinators, members use the Great Leaps reading curriculum to tutor academically at-risk students.

Getting Things Done for Kentucky’s Homeless

Program Sponsor: Homeless and Housing Coalition of Kentucky

Number of members: 28 full-time

Description: Members counsel low-income families and individuals to help them find permanent and/or transitional housing. Members also serve as construction assistants with non-profit agencies, rehabilitating and building housing in low-income communities.

Homeland Security Corps

Description: Members serve with rapid response agencies to educate residents in public safety, public health and disaster preparedness issues; train agency-affiliated volunteers; and assist in developing closer collaboration among local response agencies.

Description: Members help built capaccity and social capital to address the health and nutrition, education and human service needs of families in low-income urban communities. Members serve with community organizations to recruit and support volunteers to expand agency capacities and enhance responses to community needs.
