Prediabetes/National Diabetes Prevention Program (NDPP) Resources

surprised lookWhat?

Over 1 million Kentuckians have prediabetes but most do not even know it. (CDC estimates applied to Kentucky population)

What Is It?

  • Prediabetes means blood glucose (sugar) levels are higher than normal but not high enough to diagnose diabetes.
  • Many people with prediabetes may develop Type 2 diabetes within five years if measures to prevent it are not taken.

Good News

  • Research has shown that a program called the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) can delay or reduce the risks of developing Type 2 diabetes by 58 percent (71 percent for those older than 60)
  • Kentucky has sites offering the national DPP and the number is growing.
