Adoption Blue Ribbon Panel Meeting Scheduled for Oct. 23; Group to discuss legislative strategy for 2008
FRANKFORT, Ky. (Oct. 19, 2007) – The Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services’ blue ribbon panel on adoption and its workgroups are scheduled to meet next week to discuss possible issues to be considered during the 2008 session of the General Assembly.
The panel will meet at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23, in the Capital Plaza Hotel, 405 Wilkinson Blvd., Frankfort. It is open to the public.
Issues to be discussed include parental rights and education, fees for guardians ad litem and court appointed counsel and training for social service staff, attorneys and judges.
The policy workgroup will meet from 10 a.m.-2:45 p.m., and the transparency and guardians ad litem/court appointed counsel workgroups will both meet from 1-2:45 p.m. These workgroups will report to the full panel at 3 p.m.
The 13-member group has met regularly for the past year to review the process and current practices that lead to the termination of parental rights and adoption of children in the state’s child welfare system and to identify opportunities for improvement.
Cabinet Secretary Mark D. Birdwhistell chairs the group.
