Commission's Youth Advisory Council Releases Statement in Honor of National Bullying Prevention Awareness Week
In observance of National Bullying Prevention Awareness Week Oct 21-27, the Young Adults with Power workgroup coordinated by the Commission on Children with Special Health Care Needs (CCSHCN) has released the following statement to increase awareness of this issue:
"It is our council members’ belief that every child should feel 100 percent safe when going to school and other social gatherings despite their gender, race, origin, religion, sexual orientation or ability. All members of this council have had experiences of being bullied, and we feel that it should never be tolerated."
The workgroup is part of the CCSHCN's Youth Advisory Council, which is made up of 14 young people from across the state with special health care needs. The purpose of the Youth Advisory Council is to provide a forum where youth voices can be heard, and consumer ideas can influence policies that govern how services are provided. The members are also provided opportunities to make recommendations to help educate service providers and society about issues important to youth with special health care needs.
