New Specialty Plate Promotes Oral Health Programs
The Department for Public Health’s Oral Health Program encourages Kentuckians to show their support for dental community service projects by purchasing a new specialty license plate.
The plate features four smiling faces amid a light blue backdrop and the Unbridled Spirit logo. The words “A Lifetime of Oral Health” appear at the bottom of the plate.
“This is a great way to support oral health programs,” said Cabinet for Health and Family Services Secretary Mark D. Birdwhistell. “One of the largest health problems facing the commonwealth is lack of access to dental care. Yet, so many childhood and adult dental problems could be averted through routine dental care and other preventive efforts.”
The initial cost to purchase the license plate is $25, with the option to donate an additional $10 to the Kentucky Dental Foundation to help support community service projects like the sealant program at the state fair. The Kentucky Dental Association (KDA) needs 900 commitments for the plate before the Kentucky Department of Transportation will print them.
“This is a great opportunity to show support and bring to the public's eye good oral health in Kentucky,” said James Cecil, D.M.D., M.P.H., administrator for DPH’s oral health program. “Community service projects, such as the sealant program, are vital to Kentuckians, many of whom use these programs as their sole provider of dental care. I strongly encourage as many people as possible to support this effort and purchase one of the new specialty plates.”
