FRANKFORT, Ky. (March 21, 2007) – The Elliott County Department for Community Based Services (DCBS) office has relocated after a February fire destroyed its previous home.

The new offices, leased by the state, are at Route 5, Box 1900, Junior Street in Sandy Hook. Staff is available from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays.

The office phone number for family support services is (606) 738-5193, and the number for protection and permanency services is (606) 738-5167.

DCBS is the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services’ human services agency, and its staff provides child and adult protective services and determines eligibility for Medicaid, welfare assistance and food stamps.

An overnight fire destroyed the agency’s original, leased office space on Feb. 6. No one was injured in the fire. Staff had temporarily relocated to Sarah’s Place at the corner of Main and Gee streets until the transitional location opened last week.

DCBS Commissioner Mark A. Washington commended local DCBS staff and Sarah’s Place for cooperating to give Elliott County citizens continued access to assistance.

“Without causing too much inconvenience to clients, we were able to provide consistent, quality service,” he said. “Because of this outstanding teamwork, we were able to minimize any service disruption and could make a smooth transition to this new office space.”

The Junior Street location is a transitional home until the state finds an acceptable permanent home for the DCBS offices.
