Health and Family Services Cabinet
State Partners with “Annie” Production for Adoption Awareness Event
FRANKFORT, Ky. (June 26, 2008) – The Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS) is partnering with Stephen Foster Productions in Bardstown to raise awareness of the need for more adoptive families in the state.
Staff from the CHFS Special Needs Adoption Program (SNAP), part of the Department for Community Based Services, will attend the Tuesday, July 1, production of “Annie” to answer questions and provide information about the adoption process and Kentucky’s need for foster and adoptive parents.
“This partnership allows us to reach a new audience and answer questions one-on-one for families who may have long been considering adoption,” said Adoption Services Branch Manager Mike Grimes. “We are grateful to Stephen Foster Productions for this recruitment opportunity at a place where loving, involved families are sure to be.”
Grimes said Kendra Hite, director of development with Stephen Foster Productions, has been generous in extending the theater’s availability and bringing needed attention to the state’s waiting children.
The July 1 performance is the premiere night for “Annie.”
Outside the theater, visitors can pick up information about becoming an adoptive parent and ask questions about the process.
The display will feature photos and biographies of many of the children waiting for adoption through the SNAP program. University of Louisville football posters and schedules will also be available for a donation to the nonprofit Thursday’s Child program, which promotes adoption in central Kentucky and coordinates activities for SNAP children.
Children from the SNAP program will be invited to attend the performance and meet the actors backstage.
Since 1979, SNAP has been recruiting adoptive families for Kentucky’s waiting foster children – many of whom are older, have medical needs or are part of sibling groups.
Tickets to the July 1 “Annie” show are $23 for preferred seating and $18 for standard seating. Admission for children ages 6 to 12 is $10, and children ages 5 and younger are admitted free. Senior and group rates are available.
Doors open at 7:45 p.m. and the show starts at 8:30.
