Kentucky National Background Check Program and KARES History

KARES Administrative Regulation

On May 14, 2014, the Cabinet for Health and Family Services implemented Kentucky's National Background Check Program, also referred to as KARES.  In accordance with state regulation 906 KAR 1:190, long-term care facilities and other eligible providers are encouraged to participate in KARES voluntarily.  The cost to providers for a state and national criminal background check facilitated under KARES will remain $20 until the depletion of available NBCP grant monies, currently used to subsidize the cost of fingerprint check fees.
