What is MCAFS
The Department for Medicaid Services (DMS) is in the process of replacing the current Medicaid Management Information System (MMIS), which was implemented in 2007. The MMIS is a key system for DMS and it accomplishes many things, with one of the primary functions of processing Medicaid claims and paying providers for the services rendered. The new system is called MCAFS. The MCAFS will take over the claims processing for the Fee-For-Service (FFS) Medicaid population. Some of the improvements DMS expects to see from MCAFS are:
- More automated claims and encounter processing with less manual intervention
- The ability to more quickly implement Medicaid policy changes
- Simpler and easier to use and understand
- An enhanced Portal for Providers, Members, and Managed Care Organizations which will provide a robust set of self-service capabilities
As we continue to evaluate the project timeline, we can now confirm that MCAFS go-live will not occur in first quarter of 2025. We will continue to communicate changes as promptly as possible.
