The Health Care Access Branch assists the Kentucky Spinal Cord and Head Injury Research Board in any manner to meet its mission of administering the Spinal Cord and Head Injury Research Trust Fund.
About the Research Board and Trust
The Kentucky Spinal Cord and Head Injury Research Board was created by KRS 211.500 to manage the Spinal Cord and Head Injury Research Trust Fund. The trust was created by KRS 211.504 to allcate funds to the trust through court costs/judicial fines (KRS 42.320(2)(c)) as well as through other sources as available (federal, foundations, etc.) to fund research on spinal cord and head injury.
The board meets a minimum of twice per year and also meets as part of its management of a peer review study group of experts in spinal cord injury and head trauma who evaluate grant applications submitted by the faculties of the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville. The board then provides research grants to the accepted grant applications each year.
An annual report is submitted to the Legislative Research Commission every January 30.
