There are two services programs available: National Family Caregiver Support Program and Kentucky Family Caregiver Program.
National Family Caregiver Support Program
The National Family Caregiver Support Program offers flexible benefits and support services to informal caregivers of people 60 years of age or older, an individual with Alzheimer’s disease or a related disorder and also for grandparents and relatives age 55 or older caring for a relative child no older than 18 years of age related by birth, marriage or adoption. The services include:
- Information about available programs and services.
- Assistance accessing services.
- Counseling, support groups and training to help caregivers make decisions and solve problems related to their caregiver role.
- Respite care to give caregivers time off from care giving responsibilities.
- Supplemental services on a limited basis, to supplement caregiving tasks.

Kentucky Family Caregiver Program
Kentucky Family Caregiver Program provides a wide range of services including matching grandparent caregivers with support groups and providing information about resources, assistance in accessing services, counseling and training.
The grandparent must be the primary caregiver for a grandchild no older than 18 who is related by blood, marriage or adoption. The child must live in the caregiver’s home and the child’s parents may not reside in the household.
Program participants also may be eligible for a grant or voucher for a grandchild each fiscal year for clothing, respite, school supplies and educational needs, required legal services, medical/dental services and other approved expenses.
To receive financial assistance, eligible grandparents must have annual incomes of no more than 150 percent of the federal poverty level and not receive state Kinship Care program benefits.
KIPDA includes: Bullitt, Clark, Floyd, Henry, Jefferson, Oldham, Shelby, Spencer, and Trimble
Lake Cumberland includes: Adair, Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, Green, McCreary, Pulaski, Russell, Taylor, and Wayne
