The Division of Public Health Protection and Safety enforces public health regulations for environmental health and community safety. The division works closely with local health departments to make sure Kentuckians are protected from unsafe consumer products, lead hazards, unnecessary radiation exposure, unsanitary milk, adulterated and misbranded food, unsanitary public facilities and malfunctioning sewage systems.
State staff is responsible for radiation health and safety issues involving both the natural environment and organizations using radioactive materials, inspection of X-ray equipment, grade A milk production, public health aspects of chemical weapons storage at the Blue Grass Army Depot and certification of public swimming pool designs.
